36th America’s Cup update

15/12/20 – Auckland (NZL) 36th America’s Cup presented by Prada PRADA ACWS Auckland 2020 – Practice Races Day 3 Emirates Team New Zealand, Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli Team

Race one of the 36th America’s Cup Match will start shortly after 4pm (NZT) on Wednesday 10th March after the New Zealand government announced a reduction in Covid-19 alert levels today.

According to the New Zealand Herald, the Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern confirmed Auckland would move back to level two at 6am on Sunday morning, which would allow for racing to get under way as planned on Wednesday.

Under Covid-19 Alert level two or onethe race schedule will remain as planned with two races per day on Wednesday 10th, Friday 12th, Saturday 13th, Sunday 14th, Monday 15th and each day after that. The current schedule has racing every day until either the Defender Emirates Team New Zealand or the Challenger Luna Rossa reaches seven wins.

Any changes to this schedule will need to be agreed between both teams.

The cabinet won’t meet to review  whether Auckland will move to level one until next weekend, so the same limitations will be in place for the start of the cup match as they were for the second half of the Prada Cup final, with attractions at the cup village such as entertainment and watching the racing on big screens closed, and with official fanzones at key vantage points not fully activated, says the New Zealand Herald.

Bars, cafes, restaurants and other retail outlets within the America’s Cup village will be open, operating within Ministry of Health guidelines.
