Abbie Hewitt joins RYA Scotland Team

Abbie Hewitt has just been announced as the new High Performance Manager of RYA Scotland and is looking forward to the exciting opportunities and challenges that the role has to offer. James Allan, CEO of RYA Scotland said of her appointment:

“We are very pleased to welcome Abbie to the RYA Scotland Team. Her background in international training and development, as an active RYA Coach for National and Zone squads and as someone who has been a part of the UK pathway in her own racing career, mean Abbie brings with her considerable experience in performance sailing. She has an evident passion for sailing which will make her a great asset to our community across Scotland.”

“Joining our team in early October, Abbie will be straight into it at Scotland’s Boat show where she will be supporting our stand and able to chat sailing to anyone who drops by. Abbie will undoubtedly be building on our established successes and leading our performance development programme towards an even brighter future.”

Abbie Hewitt had the following to say about her appointment as High Performance Manager:

“I am really looking forward to taking on the role of Scotland’s High Performance Manager and getting stuck in with the sailing community in Scotland. With my degree in sport and exercise science along with my experience as a sailor and coach I hope to have positive impact educating and inspiring the sailors and their surrounding support networks throughout the RYA pathway. My ethos as a team player brings be great excitement to be integrated within sportscotland, the Scottish Institute of Sport, the RYA and the RYA Scotland team up in Edinburgh.”

Abbie is an active sailor and is passionate about her interests including triathlon, skiing, surfing and encouraging sport amongst young people. We look forward to her starting in October.
