Applications open for #boatgen youth ambassador programme

Teenagers and young adults can now apply to become the next #boatgen youth ambassador, with applications closing on 4th January 2022.

The ambassador’s role is to inspire a community of young people to experience the freedom, challenges and amazing opportunities that come with getting on the water.

#boatgen, a not-for-profit sailing initiative which aims to get children and teens on the water, was launched earlier this year by boatfolk in partnership with Andrew Simpson Foundation (ASF).

Dominic Zammit, director at boatfolk, comments: “The boatgen ambassador programme gives experienced young boaters a platform to share their passion with peers.

“We are looking for role models who understand the value of sailing and watersports, and are passionate about sharing this with others, as well as looking after the environment that makes these amazing experiences possible. Ambassadors will be the face and voice of #boatgen, becoming an important part of a grassroots movement united in making sailing and watersports accessible to all.”

Ambassadors will have access to:

  • £500 off watersports courses
  • Year-round access to sailing clubs delivered at Andrew Simpson Centres
  • Networking opportunities that support career goals in boating and/or watersports
  • A chance to apply for a position on the Andrew Simpson Youth Board to influence youth participation and the direction of the charity

Tim Long, who was the youngest person to sail around Britain at 15-years old, is a boatgen ambassador. Long comments: “I am absolutely thrilled to be a boatgen ambassador and am excited to share my experiences with peers and encourage them to try out the sport that I am so passionate about. I love the feeling of freedom and self-reliance that comes with being on the water and I think that every young person should have an opportunity to experience that too.”

boatgen is looking for ambassadors aged between 16-24, but has said that this rule can be flexible “for the right person”.
