Barrus announces support for Harvey Smith Racing

British Marine member, Barrus, recently announced its support of Harvey Smith Racing in the 2018 and 2019 racing seasons.

Harvey has been competing in GT15 since the age of 9 and has achieved great success in the UK, European and World Championships having been named the current British Champion and an ambassador for the Royal Yachting Association (RYA).

Harvey’s progress and talent have been rewarded with the opportunity to race in the Formula 1 support class for 2019 as a junior driver in the Formula 4 class for F1 Atlantic. As this class supports the Formula 1 series, Harvey is hopeful that it will become a springboard into Formula 1 in the future.

With the aid of his mentor, Matt Palfreyman, an experienced Formula 4 and Formula 2 pilot, Harvey will compete in restricted events in the UK this year before his 16th birthday in March. This will give the opportunity to continuously test the boat and hone his skills to ensure he can race in the F1 H2O series competitively.

Ahead of his first race in June, Barrus will supply Harvey with the newly released Mercury 15hp EFI outboard engine for testing and evaluation purposes. These tests will prove the engine’s suitability for the upcoming race season. Barrus, in conjunction with Harvey Smith Racing, would be looking at the possibility of competing in the Coniston Speed Record week later this year with the newly released products.

In addition to Barrus supplying an engine and parts, Lee Allen, Technical Service Manager for the Marine Leisure Division, will be providing Harvey with technical support to optimise the engine and boat set up and offer support during races.
