Boats builder unveils pilot vessels

Three boats designed and manufactured by a Norfolk boat builder as part of a £3m contract have been unveiled.

Burgh Castle-based Goodchild Marine Services has built the pilot vessels for contractor Briggs Marine.

The boats will be used out of Liverpool’s Albert Dock and will transport maritime pilots to and from ships sailing in and out of port.

Steve Pierce, general manager at Goodchild Marine Services, says: “The naming ceremony was the culmination of nearly two years of hard work by our dedicated team of boat builders, engineers and electricians. The boats have been constructed using some of the most innovative technology on the market, in line with the continuing progress of wind farms, which is seeing pilot boat areas moving further offshore.”

Each boat was built using an original design by French architects Pantocarene, adapted by Goodchild Marine for the UK market.
