Co-founders of TheYachtMarket.com, Richard W. Roberts and Simon White, have together raised almost £700 for Wetwheels, a charity dedicated to supporting disabled and disadvantaged people, by abseiling down 100-metres of the Emirates Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth.

Wetwheels is a charity based in the south of the UK that provides opportunities and builds disabled people’s confidence by providing access to the sea in a fun, safe, stimulating and rewarding way using specially modified, fully accessible powerboats.

Commenting on the abseil, Richard W. Roberts, says: “We always love a challenge, and this is for a great cause, so we both decided to conquer our fears and complete the challenge. It was daunting to know how high the landmark is, but we took comfort in knowing the money raised will go to such an important cause.

“As a business, we are passionate about getting more people out on the water and it’s surprising that despite living here on the coast, the number of people who have never previously been on the sea. Wetwheels works extremely hard to reassess the perceived barriers, teach new skills and prove that a new-found independence can be discovered out on the water. We’re thrilled to have raised £695 and thank everyone who has donated towards the abseil.”

Founder of Wetwheels, Geoff Holt MBE, added: “We are very proud to have the support of TheYachtMarket.com. We now have five boats in the UK, and we need to raise funds so we can continue this amazing work.

“As a disabled sailor myself, I am lucky to have experienced the joy, fun and freedom that being on the water brings. Despite my disability, it gives me a sense of independence and I have committed much of my life to working to make our seas and oceans more accessible to people with disabilities.”

TheYachtMarket.com has been supporting WetWheels for two years and to date has raised £1,695 for the charity.
