British Marine activity at METS 2017

With METS less than a week away, British Marine provides a round-up of what it is doing and involved with at one of the world’s leading marine equipment shows.

British Marine is providing full support to members exhibiting in the British Pavilion (Hall 3) and the Superyacht Pavilion, which has now taken over both Halls 10 and 11. The British Marine team, led by Richard Selby and Jo Sargeant, will be on site throughout the show to offer assistance to exhibiting and visiting members. And from 17.00-19.00 on Wednesday 15 November members, exhibitors, visitors and guests will be able to enjoy great British Marine hospitality at the always popular and beneficial Meet the Buyer networking reception, this year supported by Santander.

A note for all exhibitors and visitors concerning the new matchmaking tool at METS, Pitch & Match. This online tool enables exhibitors to fill in what products they produce (based on the exhibition profile) and visitors will be able to fill in what products they are looking for (based on the exhibition profile). The tool will then make matches and propose meetings, but it is also possible to make general meetings too. The meetings can be held at the exhibitor stands or at the dedicated Pitch & Match meeting areas – Balcony in Hall 1 and the Holland Room. Click here for more information and to register. Over 480 exhibitors have already activated their account.

There is also plenty of activity taking place outside the Show and staff from British Marine will be fully engaged to ensure members are fully represented and supported. British Marine’s Sarah Dhanda and Blue Davies, will be joined by TYHA Manager, Jon White, at the Global Marina Institute’s Board Meeting on Sunday 12 November. And on Monday 13 November they will be taking part in the Marina Valuation and Investment Seminar.

British Marine’s technical team, led by Ross Wombwell, will be attending a full diary of ICOMIA representative meetings and international standards working group meetings throughout the week. They will include work on new standards for sea cocks and bilge pumps, as well as the next round of discussions on the NOx Tier III concerns, with the IMO exemption for large yachts set to run out in a few years’ time.

Brian Clark, British Marine’s environment manager and chair of the ICOMIA Environment Committee (IEC) will be chairing the IEC meeting on Wednesday 15 November. Topics for discussion will include the latest developments on non-native invasive species and their control through antifouling products; international timber regulations and the issues of sourcing timber from Myanmar; and end-of-life boat disposal strategies.

Taking a step away from the Show, Richard Selby, British Marine’s International Development Manager, will be involved in a panel discussion representing Superyacht UK during the Superyacht Global Forum on Wednesday 15 November (10:00 – 11:00). The topic for discussion: The Value of Associations. Richard and Jo are also meeting with the RAI (organisers of METS) to discuss increasing the UK’s involvement with the Show and therefore deliver even more growth opportunities for member companies.

Carol Taylor and her Boat Show sales team will be onsite, to answer questions about the fantastic re-imagined London Boat Show 2018. Becky Jackson, British Marine’s PR & Comms Manager, will be engaging the international press on London too. There’s a return to METS for Hayley James-Harris, Head of British Marine’s membership team, who will be joined by new recruit Tom Foy. So do make sure you say hello if you see them. And last, but by no means least, British Marine CEO Howard Pridding will be at the Show, aiding Richard and the team as they host a visit from the British Ambassador to the Netherlands.

Phew! If you tried to cram anymore activity into the week it would explode! But there is more! One final round of “best of luck” to all those British Marine members, and UK companies, nominated for an award at the DAME Awards and Boat Builder Awards. British Marine will be reporting on all the success stories next week. See you there!
