British Marine East Anglia receive plenty of plaudits

British Marine members in East Anglia have been enjoying something of an awards frenzy at the back end of 2017.

Marine Teak (based in Oulton Broad), an importer and distributer of a range of wooden tables for boats and also provides bespoke products, has been recognised twice for its business efforts. It picked up the Small Business Award at the Eastern Daily Press (EDP) Business Awards, with the EDP judges saying: “Marine Teak has recently employed a digital specialist to leverage the growing social media and online opportunities that the current environment presents. This combined with further product development and diversification suggest the future is bright for the company.”

It followed that up with the Suffolk Chambers of Commerce Growing Business Award. The Chamber commented: “A business which started in 2013 which uses teak from sustainable sources, Marine Teak are continually working to expand by adding more products to their inventory and by adding more suppliers to their growing global trade network. A growing business, one to watch.”

ASAP Supplies Ltd (based in Beccles), a distributor of a wide range of marine equipment, also saw success at the Chamber Awards, winning the Excellence in Customer Service Award (11 employees + category). ASAP is well known to the marine industry for its customer service and this recognition is richly deserved. The judging panel said: “ASAP are constantly looking to build on the great service that they offer. The importance of customer service and expected KPI’s are shared regularly with the team so that everyone is on board and aware of the standard expected. Their feedback processes are a fantastic example of how customers are treated as individuals and everything that can be done, will be done, to rectify an issue and strive to ensure that everyone goes away with the positive experience.”

Neil Thompson Boats (based in Holt), a boatbuilder, also received a special mention at the EDP Business Awards, as a finalist in the Small Business category. Narrowly losing out to Marine Teak, the judging panel stated: “Neil Thompson Boats has grown from a sub-contracting engineer set up in 200, to building the Norfolk range of boats, a modern fibre-glass representation of the traditional boating range. As a trailblazer to the concept of crowdfunding, Neil Thompson Boats bought out the moulds, rights and brokerage offering for the Norfolk range by leveraging customer relationships to arrange upfront service plans in exchange for the cash needed for the transaction. Servicing and maintenance are key to the ongoing relationships that owners have with the company.”

British Marine’s Chief Executive, Howard Pridding, commented: “It is great to see these fantastic British Marine member businesses recognised and honoured for their hard work and dedication to delivering great products and services for their customers. All three companies are shining examples of the great service that marine businesses up and down the UK are delivering both domestically and abroad.”
