British Marine South hosts careers event

British Marine South is organising a careers fair on June 27 at Boathouse 4 in the Historic Dockyard

A careers fair organised by British Marine South to help people chart a course in the marine industry will run from 6pm to 8pm at Boathouse 4, in the Historic Dockyard on June 27 in Portsmouth.

It is aimed at showcasing the wide variety of careers available in the industry. It is open to anyone interested in working in the marine sector as well as students, careers advisors, those seeking a career change, the unemployed, members of sailing clubs and sea scouts and cadets.

There will be stands with experts from training providers, colleges, businesses and marine industry organisations.

Jobs in the marine industry include boatbuilder, captain/skipper, marina manager, marina engineer, marine insurance broker, marine sales manager, naval architect/boat designer, project manager, watersports instructor, marine electronic/electrical engineer, marine surveyor and yacht broker.

Tony Birr, who is organising the event for British Marine South, said: “There are many more exciting and fulfilling career opportunities in the marine industry than people may realise.

“This careers evening will include stands for visitors to have one-on-one conversations about the many varied careers on offers. There will also be training providers and colleges on hand to give further advice about training requirements.”

Mr Birr, who works in the marine sector with State 21 and The Maritime Group, added: “Portsmouth and the Solent are dynamos in the national marine economy.
