Actisense and British Marine collaboration provides specialist training to the South West

Following their latest NMEA 2000 training course in October, British Marine and Actisense have now enabled a multitude of companies from across the South West to achieve the respected internationally recognised qualification.

Delivering the latest in a series of dedicated courses, Actisense the multi-award winning NMEA specialists, has continued its partnership with British Marine this month to give companies from as far afield as Cornwall and the Channel Islands access to qualifications normally only available in the US. Several companies have now benefitted from the Actisense and British Marine Collaboration which officially launched this summer.

Attending the training courses at the Actisense HQ in Poole this October, representatives from Mylor Yacht Harbour and Falmouth Boat Co. in Cornwall, alongside Fastcraft Marine Services from Guernsey were the latest UK companies to achieve the Basic NMEA 2000 Installer qualification.

Working with British Marine, a membership organisation for the leisure, superyacht and small commercial marine industry, the two-day courses were designed to give UK marine electronics professionals from the peripheries of the UK access to the specialist NMEA 2000 qualification for the first time.

The courses are designed for the beginner or those who have been installing NMEA 2000® but would like more information, more clarity and an opportunity to share ideas with others who have installed NMEA 2000® networks. Topics include cables, connectors, specifications, power sources and distribution along with network setup and troubleshooting.

Blue Davies, Head of Training, at British Marine says: “Our partnership with Actisense is helping to bring the valuable international NMEA qualification to our shores. A good number of companies within the UK marine industry have already benefited from the courses in the short time we have been delivering the courses. Improving their technical knowledge of the NMEA network, we congratulate the most recent cohort of companies involved for achieving the respected accreditations.”

The training courses are led by Actisense Technical Support Engineer and Training Coordinator Owen Vachell. Taking place within the custom-built Actisense training centre, Owen is one of the few people outside of the America’s to hold the Advanced NMEA 2000 Certificate. He achieved the accreditation in the USA at the beginning of 2017.

Owen says: “It was great to meet representatives from the marine companies and welcome them to the Actisense HQ. They were clearly passionate about improving their understanding of NMEA 2000 in order to enhance their services and grow their business.’’

Combined with the NMEA 2000 training, attendees also had the opportunity to become an ‘Actisense Accredited Installer’ (AAI) as the NMEA specialists have created their own course designed to help improve users understanding of their sophisticated product range.
