RYA Dinghy Show to go ahead despite weather

RYA Update- 10:45AM- Having carefully weighed up all the factors, we have decided that the show will go ahead. This has been a difficult decision due to lots of conflicting evidence advice and opinions. The forecast appears to be improving and a substantial number of exhibitors want the show to go ahead. Alexandra Palace is open and build up is underway and the surrounding area is largely clear. If it is not safe for you to travel then please do not attempt to do so.

Escape the cold and fuel your passion for sailing this weekend at the RYA Dinghy Show 2018, presented by Suzuki in association with Yachts and Yachting and Gill (03-04 March).

Although it may be too cold for even the hardiest sailor to be out on the water, you can still enjoy a bumper sailing filled weekend indoors in the warmth of Alexandra Palace, London.

#dinghysailingforlife
Hosted for the first time this year by Rio 2016 470 champion and double Olympic medalist, Saskia Clark, and two-time 49er class Olympian, Stevie Morrison, this year’s RYA Dinghy Show theme is #dinghysailingforlife celebrating a lifetime sport for all.

Whether you want to shop for the latest kit, pick up some tips from expert coaches or inspire your family to get on the water, the show has something for everyone.

Amongst the packed line-up of talks and coaching sessions from world class experts, highlights include double Olympic medalist and Volvo Ocean Race winning skipper Ian Walker, sports nutritionist Nigel Mitchell and record-breaking dinghy cruisers Phil Slade (Royal Navy) and Mark Belamarich.

Also not to be missed is the historical Proctor exhibition showcasing some of Proctor’s earliest designs, including the Gull, Minisail, Osprey and the Wayfarer.

New for 2018
There’s two new for 2018 stages to check out too – the Women’s Sailing Hub and the Class Asssociation Stage. Meanwhile, you can rub shoulders with members of the British Sailing Team and other sailing heroes in the new ‘Sailors’ Corner’.

“The forecast is currently showing that temperatures will be rising for the weekend,” says RYA Show and Promotions Manager, Celia Edgington. “So although it may be too cold to actually go sailing, you are guaranteed a very warm welcome at the RYA Dinghy Show.

“Whether you’re new to the show, catching up with old friends, looking to pick up some Dinghy Show deals or enjoying a day out with your family, come and help us celebrate everything we love about dinghies!”

As always the show is full of free activities for everyone. This year, experience sailing on dry land by jumping on one of the simulators or fly across the water with our 360 degree virtual reality sailing experience.
