Free fishing at Drayton Reservoir this Christmas

Keen anglers wanting to enjoy some festive fishing can fish for free on Christmas Day at Drayton Reservoir – the country’s best specimen carp fishery.

We’re offering anglers the opportunity to get out of the house, enjoy some fresh air on Christmas Day and spend a relaxing morning or afternoon at this famous waterway.

Drayton reservoir in Daventry is home to some large carp with an average weight of around 16lbs. Last year we installed a number of new, larger fishing platforms at the reservoir, some with wheelchair access, giving the option for experienced anglers and those new to the sport to fish together.

The free fishing session is available from 7am – 5pm on the 25 December and is open to all ages. Under 16’s need to be accompanied by an adult.

John Ellis, our fisheries and angling manager said: “Drayton Reservoir is one of the best fisheries in the country and should be a place to visit for all keen anglers.

“Fishing is a great sport to get into whatever the age and, if you’re after some peace and quiet on Christmas Day, there really isn’t anywhere better to spend the day. If this is your first-time fishing then Drayton Reservoir is an excellent choice for beginners as you’re bound to catch something on your first-time. If you’re really lucky you could even reel in a massive 20lb fish or two!”

All anglers need to have a rod licence to fish on waters managed by the Canal & River Trust. To buy your licence visit Fishing licences
