Icom launches standalone MA-510TR Class B AIS transponder

Icom has launched the MA-510TR. This new compact, waterproof Class B AIS transponder will actively notify other vessels of a boat’s position as well as displaying real time vessel traffic information.

The standalone unit combines transponder and display in a compact design which features a wide-angled 4.3-inch colour TFT display (easy to read, even under direct sunlight or in severe weather). Collision risk management functions are integrated, as well as navigation.

Collision-risk management functions include identifying a target list (those in a local area), dangerous list (potential threats) and what the Closest Point of Approach (CPA) and Time to Closest Point of Approach (TCPA) is.

Additionally, owners can set AIS targets as ‘friends’ and a MOB function automatically marks a waypoint when the MOB button is pressed. A collision alarm gives the yachtsman extra warning of potential impact.

Suitable for small vessels, workboats or pleasure craft, the MA-510TR’s compact size means that it can be installed near the chart table, in the wheelhouse, on the flybridge, or a steering pedestal. The MA-510TR AIS data output uses either NMEA 2000 & NMEA 0183 formats for easy connectivity to most radars, chart plotters, and navigation systems.
