Inmarsat strengthens presence in Monaco Superyacht Community with SSI Fleet Xpress agreement

On 28 September 2018 at this year’s Monaco Yacht Show, Inmarsat, the world leader in mobile satellite communications, announced that it is strengthening its links with the superyacht community with the appointment of its partner SSI-Monaco as a reseller of Inmarsat’s ground-breaking Fleet Xpress (FX) service.

The strategic agreement marks a new phase in the partnership between Inmarsat and SSIMonaco; one that further strengthens Inmarsat’s presence in the superyacht market and will enable the company to efficiently meet customer demand for flexible, high-performance broadband connectivity.

The appointment of SSI-Monaco as an FX reseller significantly enhances its capabilities to offer captains and crew access to the world’s only globally available high-speed satellite broadband network. Fleet Xpress also delivers a fully-integrated solution for seamless communication, meeting specific superyacht requirements and providing a global, secure service for the Monaco superyacht cluster.

Rob Myers, Inmarsat Maritime, Senior Director, Large Yacht and Passenger, said: “We are really pleased that SSI is joining our Fleet Xpress partner network. It increases our presence in a key region at a time when demand in the superyacht market for reliable, seamless and secure connectivity is growing strongly. To meet this demand, it is important to extend the Inmarsat network and secure the support of key partners, such as SSI, to enable fast industry transition to high-speed connectivity.

“Awareness of the differentiated capabilities of Fleet Xpress is increasingly rapidly. It delivers reliable, flexible, high performance superyacht connectivity globally, strengthening Inmarsat’s position as the driving force in the global maritime sector for connectivity at sea.”

Fleet Xpress for superyachts is powered by the Global Xpress Ka-band network, combined with the proven reliability of Inmarsat’s flagship FleetBroadband L-band service. Delivering high data speeds, continuous connectivity and guaranteed performance, the service sets a new standard for maritime global communications with crew welfare, regulatory and operational drivers at the heart. Benefits include affordable voice calls, multiple voice options for crew and operations, and high-speed broadband for internet access, plus 24/7 online support by certified engineers. For superyacht clients, Fleet Xpress provides added subscription flexibility to meet seasonal demand changes.

Earlier this year, Inmarsat and SSI-Monaco signed a strategic agreement with the Yacht Club de Monaco (YCM) to provide Inmarsat services for superyachts in the region.

Dr. Ilhami Aygun, President & CEO, SSI-Monaco, said: “The development of our established relationship with Inmarsat ensures we can further enhance our global mobile communications offering for superyachts and offer all the benefits of Fleet Xpress to the superyachts of Monaco. We are looking forward to continuing this powerful partnership and driving new standards for maritime communications.”

The appointment of SSI as a Fleet Xpress reseller continues Inmarsat’s expansion of its global partner capabilities, as requests for installations continues to increase. Inmarsat has just launched an in-depth survey of connectivity on superyachts and is holding a series of round table events throughout 2018 with superyacht skippers and operators in Europe and USA.
