John Crevald…

John played a number of important roles within the Ship and Boat Builders National Federation (SBBNF), British Marine Industries Federation and British Marine spread over more than 60 years.

His family business sold boats and equipment in Colnbrook and then alongside the River Thames at Straight Road, Old Windsor where he provided Service and Support to boating and diving.

He was a Founder Member and then Chairman of the national Marine Trades Association ( now British Marine Trades Association) when the SBBNF was predominantly a boatbuilders organisation. This included serving on the SBBNF National Council for many years.

John also played a very major role in his Regional Association, the Thames Boating Trades Association (now British Marine Thames Valley).

As a Committee Member, Chairman and probably the longest serving Association Secretary, his knowledge of, and interest in, the River Thames was fundamental in the Association making representations and fighting for the interests of the Boating Industry, its Members and Customers. He gave many, many voluntary hours to attend meetings with the various Thames Navigation Authorities plus National Government bodies.

His determination and tenacity were renowned and respected by all with whom he came into contact and have left a legacy from which today’s Riverside Businesses continue to benefit.

He was President (Emeritus) of British Marine Thames Valley and actively continuing in this role when struck down with an aneurysm and passed away surrounded by his family on Tuesday 12th December, aged 93.

Our thoughts are with his wife, Jennifer and his family.

His funeral is likely to be held after Christmas. Details will be available later from British Marine Thames Valley.
