Lumishore and Oceanair celebrate Queen’s Award for Enterprise success

British Marine members, Lumishore and Oceanair, have been honoured in the 2018 Queen’s Award for Enterprise, the most prestigious business awards in the country which endorse the highest levels of excellence for Britain’s best companies. Lumishore was one of only eight of the 238 businesses honoured this year to achieve a double award for Innovation and International Trade. Oceanair received its award for International Trade and was being honoured for the fourth time.

British Marine’s Chief Executive Officer, Howard Pridding, comments on the companies’ success: “British Marine is delighted that the UK marine industry has once again been recognised by the highly prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise. Lumishore and Oceanair are two exceptionally worthy recipients and epitomise why UK marine equipment manufacturers are so highly regarded right around the world. These awards honour not just the company, but their highly skilled staff too, and British Marine would like to pass on its congratulations to everyone involved with these two great member companies.”

Lumishore’s 2018 Award for Innovation was a result of its technical expertise, combined with continued investment in research and development, which together create one of the world’s most innovative, beautiful, high-performing lighting systems for the leisure marine and superyacht sectors. Its 2018 Award for International Trade recognised Lumishore’s strong percentage sales exported, as well as its outstanding and sustained growth in overseas’ sales over the past three years.

Eifrion Evans, CEO at Lumishore says: “We are extremely proud that the Queen’s Award recognises Lumishore for its innovation and export successes. The Award endorses our industry leadership and is a recognition for Lumishore’s worldclass design, development and manufacturing staff, who produce the best and most breath-taking underwater lighting effects for prestigious yachts and boats of all sizes worldwide.

“An on-going commitment to innovation and future product development are core to Lumishore’s DNA, which, when combined with our investment in people and our passion for customer focus will lead to our continued future growth and success. We thank all our customers who have recognised Lumishore’s capabilities and are at the heart of our past and future successes.”

Oceanair’s award was the fourth time it has been recognised for excellence, following receipt of the award in 2001, 2005 and 2008. Founded in 1990 and now employing over 200 people, Oceanair has served the global marine industry with bespoke blinds and soft furnishings for over a quarter of a century. In the past decade Oceanair has broken into other markets, including superyacht, luxury home, commercial and recreational vehicle.

Oceanair’s Managing Director and former owner, Andy FitzGerald, says: “2018 has been a fantastic year for Oceanair so far, having made substantial advances to our manufacturing facility, resulting in improved profits – the Holy Grail for any business.

“I am immensely proud to have founded and managed such an innovative and successful company for 28 years, having had a constant support network of dedicated staff with me throughout that time. I am pleased that Oceanair is continuing to uphold a prominent position in UK business, showcasing the very best in local talent and capabilities. The Queens Award symbolises excellence and heritage; what an honour to have been awarded our fourth.”

Lumishore and Oceanair will celebrate their achievements during a royal reception for Queen’s Awards winners in the summer and a visit from the Lord Lieutenant in due course.
