New lease of life for Bowbridge Lock

Bowbridge Lock on the Thames & Severn Canal has been filled with water for the first time in 90 years. The lock was filled with water for an evaluation cruise by Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) Monitors team on Friday 10th November.

IWA’s Waterway Recovery group volunteers spent over 4,000 hours supporting the Cotswold Canals Trust project to restore Bowbridge and Wallbridge locks, through its Canal Camp working holidays. Volunteer hours include project planning and construction.

This is another milestone for the Cotswold Canals Trust project to reopen the Stroudwater Navigation and the Thames & Severn Canal, which comprise thirty-six miles navigable waterway from the the Gloucester-Sharpness Canal at Saul Junction to the River Thames at Lechlade.

If you would like to get involved with one of the Canal Camp volunteer working holidays in 2018, email Alex at enquiries@wrg.org.uk and we will send you a 2018 Brochure.
