New sponsorship of the Jubilee Sailing Trust

Oyster Yachts have embarked on a multi-year sponsorship of international charity, the Jubilee Sailing Trust (JST). This announcement underscores Oyster’s commitment to maritime philanthropy and the Southampton community.

The JST have become world-renowned for tall ship sailing adventures that are inclusive for people of all physical and sensory abilities. Funds from this sponsorship will allow people from Southampton to sail with the JST. These voyages integrate people with disabilities and able-bodied, breaking down barriers and changing perceptions around disability.

It is also a prime opportunity to jointly promote the benefits of a maritime career amongst the local community, whilst creating opportunities for individuals – especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds – to take a first step on the career ladder.

David Tydeman, Oyster CEO, commented: “We’re delighted to be working with the JST and we look at this investment in people as an extension of some other initiatives we do within the Oyster group to help people develop their careers and a passion for the marine industry, for example our apprenticeship programme.

“Whilst we operate in an exclusive environment in the sense that our clients are people who can afford luxury yachts, we believe it is important to keep our feet firmly on the ground and look after the people who build and run yachts for the more privileged owners.”

Duncan Souster, CEO of the Jubilee Sailing Trust, added: “We are delighted to be embarking on this new relationship with Oyster Yachts and excited at the potential to offer life-changing sailing experiences to individuals in our local community who might not have previously benefited from our work. It’s also fantastic to see two proximate organisations coming together to promote inclusivity and create opportunities for the local community.”

The photo above is of the sailing vessel Tenacious, which was purpose built and launched back in 2000 for the Jubilee Sailing Trust. The yard where Tenacious was built now houses the hull of the next Oyster 118 which is due for launch in 2020.
