RNLI celebrates success of Atlantic 85

The RNLI is celebrating its Atlantic 85 while raising money to help support the continued training of its volunteers. According to the RNLI, in its first 15 years of service, after joining the fleet in 2005, the Atlantic 85 has had 23,103 launches and rescued 22,825 people, with 814 of those being classed as lives saved.

In its facebook fundraiser, the charity says it costs over £3,000 to kit out and train an Atlantic 85 crew member, with a drysuit at £800, a thermal suit: £230, a lifejacket: £336, a helmet: £350, seagoing gloves: £25 and annual training costs of £1,400.
