Southampton’s SMS riding high after completing hat-trick of refits in July

This has included the refit of the 32m maintenance vessel ‘London Titan’, the 72m aggregate dredge ‘City of Cardiff’ and, as previously reported, the fast ferry Condor Rapide – the latter taking place in Cherbourg.

Chris Norman, the managing director of SMS, which is based in Ocean Quay, says: “This marks a major milestone for the business as we’ve completed the last of three major ‘live’ refits that have been going on across the recently expanded ship repair group.

“In recent months our business has gone from strength-to-strength. We’ve completed a significant refit in Avonmouth onboard the ‘City of Cardiff’ for Tarmac.

“We’ve completed a refit in Cherbourg for Condor Ferries onboard their HSC ‘Condor Rapide’, the 86m Incat, and just this week we’ve undocked the ‘London Titan’ in Lowestoft for the Port of London Authority.”

Chris adds: “Three different customers, three different markets, and three different locations.”

SMS has completed a further major refit in Shoreham on the motor yacht Spada and is looking forward to the launch of of MY Alicia from a major three year refit later this month in Southampton.
