Steamship Shieldhall welcomes visitors at Poole Harbour Boat Show 2020

The largest passenger steamship still active in Northern Europe will be moored alongside Poole Quay for the Poole Harbour Boat Show (12-14 June 2020).

The historic steam ship will offer visitors the opportunity to experience the inner workings of a steamship. The technology above and below decks is similar to that used on the Titanic, sailing from the 1870s to the 1960s, prior to diesel power taking over.

Since 1988, the SS Shieldhall has been owned and operated by a dedicated and enthusiastic group of volunteers who have worked to restore the steamship to her original 1956 condition. Regular cruises are run along the south coast, during which passengers are encouraged to visit the bridge and machinery spaces.

“All areas of the ship including the Engine Room, Boiler Room, Bridge and F’ocsle will be open,” says Shieldhall Marketing Director, Nigel Philpot.

“For those wishing to experience a cruise at sea and see Shieldhall under steam, we will be selling tickets for our return cruise to Southampton on Monday 15 June, departing Poole Quay at 12 noon.”
