Volunteer to receive RYA Award from HRH Princess Royal

Patrick (Pat) McGlead was nominated for an RYA Community Award – Outstanding Contribution and has been selected as a winner by the RYA Honours and Awards Panel.

He will receive his award at the organisation’s annual awards ceremony in London on 24 November in London.

Pat started as a volunteer in 2012 with the Gwennili Trust in 2012 and was invited to become a Trustee in 2013. He plans and organises the Day Sailing programme, an extremely challenging task, and he has often volunteered as Mate for day sails and cruises.

During his time in charge the number of day sails has increased by 52% and a total of 1,900 disabled people, of whom 433 were wheelchair dependent, have taken part.

In 2014 he also took on the role of Webmaster, completely redesigning the Trust’s website and making it substantially more user-friendly.

Pat said of his win; “It has been a privilege to be able to contribute to the wonderful work carried out by the Gwenilli Trust.”
