Where we’ve been and who we’ve seen – 5 April

Every week representatives of British Marine meet with industry partners, stakeholders, regulatory bodies, government officials, Members of Parliament etc. But why do we have these meetings? They represent a very important part of the membership service that British Marine delivers to its 1550 member companies. In this new regular feature, British Marine provides a short update on where its team has been and who they have met with, but more importantly why those meetings took place, what the benefit to the membership was and which sectors of the membership those meetings were most relevant to.

The Worshipful Company of Shipwrights
Sarah Dhanda and Blue Davies met with The Shipwrights to update and confirm the on-going partnership between the two organisations. As a reminder to our member companies, the Shipwrights’ Apprentice Scheme is available for funding and assistance, primarily to smaller firms in the marine sector, offering advice and guidance in addressing the hiring and training of young people in engineering-related education and apprenticeships.

Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS)
Brian Clark attended a meeting organised by the Tourism Alliance to discuss changes to the Package Travel Directive with BEIS officials. The amendments to the Directive will come into force later in the year. British Marine is working with the Tourism Alliance and BEIS to update guidance on the application of the regulations for those businesses hiring boats. The amended regulations and guidance are expected to be published in July 2018. British Marine Inland Boating; Passenger Boat Association; Broads Hire Boat Federation

Land Rover BAR
Brian Clark met with members of the backroom team to discuss areas of collaborative work which would benefit both the membership and the Land Rover BAR business.
