WATCH: Shocking ferry explosion caught on camera in China

A ro-ro car and cargo ferry, which had departed from and returned to Weihai Port (Shandong, China), has suffered a huge explosion and fire onboard.

According to Chinese media, smoke was seen coming out of a truck loaded on the ferry. After the ship returned to the port, all passengers were evacuated as staff attempted to contain the fire on the sealed cargo deck, prior to the explosion.

The explosion occurred at around 11:40 local time on Tuesday [20Apr21]. There are no reports of injuries. The cause of the fire and explosion are under investigation, say local authorities.

The ferry, which seats up to 2,200 people, is reported as going into service last September.
