Berthon marina manager joins charity Tour de France team

Marina manager at Berthon Lymington Marina, Luke Machin, has been selected from over 300 applicants worldwide to be part of The Tour 21 team for 2022.

Next June, one week ahead of the professional Tour de France, Machin will join the 24 other riders that form The Tour 21 team to take on the full Tour de France route, with the aim of raising over £1m for Cure Leukaemia, the Official Charity Partner of Tour de France in the UK.

Excited as well as slightly nervous about the challenge, Machin says: “The Tour 21 is a bike ride like no other, even for a keen cyclist like myself. I, along with a team of amateur cyclists, will take on the challenge of riding the entire Tour De France course, one week before the professionals, following the route like for like, every single kilometre and every single foot of elevation up and down various mountains.”

Brian May, managing director at Berthon, comments: “It is awe inspiring the challenge that Luke is undertaking and we are very proud and supportive of him and any Berthon staff that decide to push themselves to their limits and follow their passions. It shows determination and strength of character; all attributes which we welcome and nurture here.”

Machin will be documenting his training over the coming months and Berthon Lymington Marina social pages will provide regular updates on his journey.

Readers can make a donation on Machin’s JustGiving page, as well as track his progress.
