Two more spots secured on 2020 ILOVESAILING calendar

Lesley MacDonald from Teddington and Shaun Roster from Southsea have clinched the next two spots on the 2020 ilovesailing calendar.

Their winning entries were chosen from amongst 27 fantastic entries submitted in April, ranging from stunning sunsets and spectacular scenery, to racing action and tranquil river scenes.

As well as their spots on the calendar, Lesley and Shaun win:

  • Two tickets to the Southampton Boat Show for the official prize giving plus afternoon tea in the RYA Members’ Lounge at the Show
  • A canvas print of their winning shot
  • A copy of the 2020 calendar
  • RYA goody bag
  • And the much loved and coveted ilovesailing rubber duck

Commenting on her winning shot, ‘Sunset on Ithaca’, Lesley said: “My husband and I were sailing with friends on their lovely Wauquiez last June in the Ionians.  I took the photo at Pera Pigadi (a small beach on Ithaka) – we’d gone there for a beach barbecue after a few really stormy days and were delighted to find it so quiet and the water so still.”

Lesley added: “I’m delighted my photo is going to be in the 2020 RYA calendar!  As sailors, I think we’re so lucky to be able to enjoy and appreciate the beauty of the sea in all conditions, but sunsets are particularly special.”

While Shaun, who also claimed a spot on the first ever black and white calendar in 2018, commented on his winning shot entitled ‘Becalmed at The Needles’: “I’m thrilled to have once again been selected to feature one of my images in the 2020 edition of the RYA Calendar.  I spend a lot of time on the Solent during the sailing season, and finally capturing an iconic ‘Needles and Spinnaker’ aerial image during the ‘Round the Island Race’ was very rewarding.

“The annual Round the Island Race provides a fantastic visual spectacle, for any photographer, with so many yachts congregating on the Solent and racing (or drifting in this case) past such well-known landmarks such as The Needles.”

The ilovesailing calendar competition has proved extremely popular over the last seven years with thousands of sailing enthusiasts and amateur and professional photographers sharing their favourite sailing photos in the hope of claiming a spot on the calendar.

From dinghy cruising to yacht racing, family days out to regattas, whatever kind of sailing you love, ilovesailing is once again asking sailing fans to share their favourite sailing photos and each month two lucky entrants will be picked to win a place on the 2020 ilovesailing calendar.

Two winners will be picked each month between March and July to represent a different month on the 2020 calendar, with the final two spots being selected in August from all the other entries made between March and July.

All you have to do to take part is post your favourite sailing photo(s) on to the ilovesailing Facebook page www.facebook.com/ryailovesailing or email your entry to emma.slater@rya.org.uk, it’s that easy.  Winners will be notified via Facebook and/or email.

Entrants can submit multiple images and can enter in more than one month.  All images need to be high resolution and in landscape in order to fit on the calendar. By submitting a photograph, entrants agree that their images maybe used for marketing and promotional purposes. If selected, entrants will be asked to confirm they have permission to share the photo from any individuals visible in the photograph.  Full terms and conditions available at www.facebook.com/ryailovesailing click on ‘About’.
