Captain sent home after Royal Navy submarine crew lockdown party

A submarine crew were filmed having a party during the coronavirus lockdown, prompting a Royal Navy investigation, according to BBC News.

The captain of HMS Trenchant, a nuclear-powered attack submarine based at Devonport in Plymouth, has been sent home on leave.

A video showing the crew dancing and laughing, enjoying a party and barbecue while the submarine was tied up has been shared on social media. A source confirmed some were drinking alcohol.

HMS Trenchant had been on patrol before having to return to Devonport to undergo repairs where the crew were required to stay with the submarine in isolation while the repairs were completed.

According to BBC News, it is understood the captain had gone ahead with the entertainment despite being advised it might be inappropriate.

A Royal Navy spokesman said: “An investigation is under way. It would be inappropriate to comment further.”

How pathetic! Has the RN really nothing better to do , than waste time on an enquiry!?
The rest of us have moved into the 21st century. Shame the Navy thinks it’s still in the 19th
So the crew let their hair down during enforced isolation and lockdown. Were they really doing any harm.?
Officials….get a grip. Find better things to do with your time.
