Diver captures close encounter with great white shark

A Hawaii-based photographer has captured jaw-dropping video footage of his encounter with a 15ft great white shark.

On his Facebook page, photographer Deron Verbeck posted that he had been out to shoot some other fish and then encountered the great white off Kona on the Big Island.

“Well check this one off the list of things ‘I have and probably shouldn’t have been swimming with'[sic],” reads Verbeck’s post.

Verbeck states that it was his first encounter with a great white shark.

Verbeck says he dove back down to try and get better footage but this spooked the shark which then sped away from him. “Tells you how truly wary they are around something new.”
