Great Britain mourns Queen Elizabeth II

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II died today (8 September 2022), age 96, after a reign spanning 70 years.

Her service to the country has been unparalleled.

MIN’s thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends and household.

Like so many across the UK, and the world, we feel blessed to have lived within her reign.

She was a firm fan of the Royal Yacht Britannia which was used for everything from royal tours to private holidays and even famous honeymoons. The yacht was launched in 1953, just a few months before The Queen’s coronation and played host to many famous people and world leaders in its 44 years of service.

The Queen described the yacht as the place “where I can truly relax” (according to the Mirror) and she was often pictured on it with members of her family during her holidays.

From Friday (9 September 22) the country enters a 10-day period of national mourning, during which Queen Elizabeth II will lie in state in Edinburgh and Westminster.

Union flags have been lowered to fly at half-mast on royal residences, government buildings and military establishments. Meanwhile, books of condolence are open at British embassies worldwide.
