Halcyon Yachts skipper completes Solent swim for the RNLI

Halcyon Yachts Delivery Skipper Jeffrey Leigh-Jones decided to gain a new perspective on the Solent on Saturday 17th November 2018 by swimming across it to raise almost £1,000 for the RNLI.

Jeff swam alongside his friend Tom Gray, a regular Triathlete and Ironman competitor, from Gillkicker Point to Ryde on the Isle of Wight.  With winds gusting twenty-eight knots at times, the pair took only one hour and thirty-four minutes to complete the two and a half nautical mile swim which was accompanied by a support boat and two kayaks.

All money raised will go to the RNLI and will help them to continue saving lives at sea. They are an organisation that Halcyon Yachts have long supported and will continue to support them in any way possible.

Jeff said: “We were inspired by Ross Edgley’s Great British Swim around mainland Britain.  We swam out to meet Ross and join him for the last mile into Margate earlier this month”.

Commenting on the conditions on Saturday Jeff added: “I was pleasantly surprised that it was not as cold as I feared, I really took to heart Ross’ comment of being naive to start but stubborn to finish.”

Halcyon Yachts Managing Director, Pete Green, who was on the support boat added: “We are thrilled for Jeff and Tom making the swim in good time and in quite gusty conditions at times.  They have almost doubled the initial target of raising £500 for the RNLI, which is a fantastic achievement.”
