Leverburgh RNLI’s new Shannon Class Lifeboat receives 2nd shout in 2 days

Leverburgh RNLI were tasked by Stornoway Coastguard at 1426 hours on Wednesday 16th May to assist a yacht with a fouled propeller in Loch Dunvegan, Isle of Skye.

The 11.4m vessel had 4 persons on board. Its propeller had become entangled in some fishing gear. The yacht’s crew were able to anchor and remain in a safe place until help reached them.

On arrival at the scene, Leverburgh RNLI were met by some divers from a local fishfarm, who set about freeing the yacht’s propeller. The Lifeboat stood by while this operation took place and waited to make sure the yacht’s crew were able to safely embark on their onward journey.

RNLB Stella and Humfrey Berkeley was back in Leverburgh, re-fuelled and ready for service again by 1830 hours.

This is the 2nd shout in 2 days for the station’s brand new Shannon Class Lifeboat, which went on service on 2nd May. The Shannon was called on it’s first shout on Monday morning after a crew member on a yacht in North Uist sustained a back injury.
