British Marine launches inaugural Apprentice of the Year Award
British Marine, the trade association for the UK marine industry, is launching a new ‘British Marine Apprentice of the Year’ award.
The British Marine Apprentice of the Year will be among the highlights at this year’s Southampton International Boat Show (13-22 September 2024).
This new accolade seeks to celebrate the talents of apprentices within the marine leisure, small commercial, and superyacht sectors. The winner will be presented with a specially engraved trophy marking their achievement.
The competition is open to all apprentices currently active on any apprenticeship standard offered by their organisation, from business administrator to marine engineer and first-year newcomers, to those in their final assessment stages.
British Marine is inviting member and non-member employers to nominate those apprentices who excel in their roles by submitting a short video (no longer than three minutes) detailing the apprentice’s journey, the impact they have had on the organisation/sector and the contributions they have made.
“We are incredibly excited to launch the Apprentice of the Year Award, which acknowledges the hard work and innovative spirit of apprentices in our industry,” says Lesley Robinson, CEO of British Marine. “This award not only highlights individual excellence but also underscores the vital role that apprentices play in the future of the marine sector.”
A panel of judges, comprising Jasmine Kundra (a former participant on BBC’s The Apprentice), Lorna Wagner from Maritime UK Solent, Lesley Robinson CEO of British Marine, Manj Mahey head of training at British Marine, and Tasha Joyce EPA Operations Manager at British Marine, will review all nominations.
A shortlist of ten finalists, announced on 2 August 2024, will undergo a final review before the winner is decided.
Each finalist will receive four complimentary tickets to the Southampton International Boat Show for themselves and their guests, and be invited to the Apprentice Recognition Ceremony on 17 September 2024, where the winner will be announced.
