ABB acquires BrightLoop to broaden marine electrification

ABB Group, a Swedish-Swiss multinational technology firm focused on electrification and automation, has entered into an agreement to acquire BrightLoop, a France-based company specialising in advanced power electronics.
In a statement, ABB says the move is intended to broaden ABB’s electrification offerings, including marine applications and industrial off-highway mobility. Completion of the transaction is anticipated in the third quarter of 2025, subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions. The purchase terms have not been disclosed.
The acquisition will see ABB initially take a 93 per cent controlling interest in BrightLoop. The remaining 7 per cent minority stake is expected to be acquired in 2028. BrightLoop’s current management will continue to lead the business within ABB.
Established in 2010 and headquartered in Paris, BrightLoop employs approximately 90 staff and recorded 2024 revenues of about €16m. Its growth has been supported by rising demand for electrification in sectors including marine, defence, hydrogen mobility, and industrial transport. The company manufactures a range of high- and low-voltage DC/DC converters designed to manage bidirectional power flow.
BrightLoop says its components are designed to operate in environments where weight, space and reliability constraints are critical.
“This acquisition is a strategic leap forward in our mission to help transport industries operate leaner and cleaner”, says Edgar Keller, president of ABB’s traction division. “BrightLoop’s software-defined power platform and expertise in high-performance applications will allow us to deliver even more value to our customers as they transition to cleaner, smarter energy systems.”
Florent Liffran, CEO of BrightLoop, adds: “We are proud and excited to join the ABB family. With our shared passion for power conversion, we’re ready to support the upcoming wave of electrification in large-scale production.
“Together with the team, and thanks to ABB’s industrial and commercial strength, we will amplify our commitment to delivering outstanding products to fast-growing markets. We’re excited for what lies ahead, and deeply committed to creating value for our customers as part of ABB.”
ABB says it intends to retain BrightLoop’s engineering and manufacturing operations in France, with further plans to scale the business internationally.
ABB has operations in more than 100 countries.
