Australian Sailing releases first Annual Participation Report
Australian Sailing, the national body for the sport of sailing in Australia, has released its first Annual Participation Report, detailing how it is progressing on its participation targets nationwide.
In early 2022, Australian Sailing released its 10-year strategic plan, Sailing 2032. Twelve months later, in 2023, it shared a Strategic Plan Status Report with clubs and classes, which reported on the progress made on the strategic plan.
The new Annual Participation Report sets out how Australian Sailing is tracking towards its participation targets.
In a statement, the organisation says: ‘Grassroots participation is the foundation for our future, and Australian Sailing is partnering with clubs to get more people on the water, in more ways, more often.
‘Together, we are committed to participation targets as outlined in the Strategic Plan (including 300,000 participants, 150,000 club members, 50 per cent female participation and 25,000 course participants per annum).’
Some highlights of the report include:
- 7 per cent increase in club membership.
- 14 per cent annual growth in Discover Sailing Centre course enrolments.
- Growth in enrolments in all Discover Sailing courses (Australian Sailing admits there is ‘more work to do’ to grow windsurfing).
- 42 per cent female enrolments in Discover Sailing courses.
- 47 per cent increase in SailPass memberships.
The first Participation Report, which covers the period of 1 July 2022 to 30 June 2023, is available to view online.
