Brighton Marina to host flares disposal day

Boaters on the UK’s south coast can dispose of out-of-date flares at a disposal day, taking place at Brighton Marina on Saturday 4 June.

The event, organised by Premier Marinas in conjunction with safety equipment specialists Seago Yachting, is hosted by Nickys Chandlery from 10am–3pm. Organisers say it is a chance for boat owners to bring along out of date flares, and have them checked and disposed of safely.

The first three flares will be free of charge for Premier berth holders – additional flares charged at £2.00. Exclusive to Premier customers, the chandlery will pay £1.00 towards each flare disposal fee when berth holders buy a new flare from the chandlery; eligible for the saving on the production of their boat name and key fob. Visitors will be charged £2.00 per flare disposal.

Premier Brighton marina manager Mike Hatch says: “This event is a good reminder for boat owners to check expiry dates on safety equipment regularly and replace them. We are delighted to have teamed up with Seago Yachting to offer this service, [who are] working collaboratively with Nickys Chandlery. It’s a fantastic partnership all round.”

There will also be the opportunity to have lifejackets checked and meet the local RNLI Water Safety team, as well as speak to Brighton Boating (Lagoon Watersports) about any training requirements.

Premier Marinas’ In Our Element rowing team will also be at the event ahead of their Atlantic rowing challenge.

Berth holders and visitors can park outside the chandlery for one hour for free. For those who intend to dispose of a large number of flares, please send an email in advance.
