Cash in JST’s attic? Auction underway

The Ship’s Bell, one-of-a-kind name signage and a wooden ship’s steering wheel are some of the items under the hammer as a charity auction gets under way to raise funds for the Jubilee Sailing Trust (JST).

More than 30 lots went up for auction on Monday 13th June as part of the JST’s Jubilee Auction, with top lots including a cottage holiday stay in Cornwall, a signed England Rugby shirt and a private tour of the British Library.

There are also several lots containing historical memorabilia from the JST’s tall sailing ships, STS Lord Nelson and SV Tenacious, from plaques to paintings.

The Jubilee Auction, running from Monday 13th until Thursday 30th June at 5pm, aims to raise funds for the sailing charity’s Covid Recovery Campaign, as it was announced back in March the charity needs to raise £1.2m before September in order to stay afloat.

JST, which has a base in Ocean Village Southampton, is entirely reliant on public funding and was hit hard by the pandemic as previously reported by MIN.

“We’re pleased to announce the successful launch of the Jubilee Auction and can see people are already bidding on items,” says JST chief executive Patrick Fleming.

“All funds will go towards the JST’s Covid Recovery Campaign. We’re hoping the Jubilee Auction will help to raise funds to help us continue carrying out its mission.”
