Castoldi establishes Indian subsidiary

Italian waterjet and tender manufacturer Castoldi has established Castoldi India, a local subsidiary that it says will support existing customers and enable the company to take part in procurement programmes linked to the Indian government’s Make in India initiative.

The subsidiary will provide local support for Castoldi’s waterjet propulsion systems. It will also support the company’s participation in programmes requiring the progressive indigenisation of products and components for Indian defence and commercial projects.

“We believe strongly in the partnership between Italy and India,” says Giacomo Castoldi, the firm’s CEO. “India is a country with enormous potential for waterjet propulsion technology – in both the commercial and defence sectors – and this step reflects our long-term commitment to this market.”

Castoldi has supplied waterjet systems for naval and commercial applications in India for several years. Its work includes the Indian Navy’s FIC (Fast Interceptor Craft) programme, under which 80 vessels equipped with Castoldi waterjets have been operating since 2013.

The company says the new subsidiary will support further industrial and commercial ties with Indian partners and customers.

Founded in 1962 by engineer Luigi Castoldi, Castoldi S.r.l. is headquartered in Albairate, Milan. The company manufactures waterjet propulsion systems for commercial, military and recreational vessels.

Its systems are certified by classification societies including Bureau Veritas, ABS and RINA, and are in service with navies, coast guards and commercial operators worldwide.
