At the last meeting of Cowes Town Council, held at Northwood House, councillors questioned Regatta Director, Laurence Mead, about the date of the event, and the lack of time and money competitors spent in the town. They also suggested it be shortened from seven days to six.

Cllr Lyn Hammond says: “This year we had nothing but moans and groans from some of the yacht people. They’re not happy, and if the yacht people aren’t happy then something needs to be done. The biggest complaint was that the date keeps moving.”

Laurence confirmed the date has been set for the first week of August for the next six years, but he resisted the idea of shortening the event.

Councillors and Mr Mead agreed to hold a further meeting to discuss how they event could be improved.
