ePropulsion unveils eCore energy management system at Cannes
Electric boat motors and propulsion systems maker ePropulsion is unveiling its eCore Energy Management System at the Cannes Yachting Festival this week. The firm says the new system brings propulsion and onboard power management into a single platform for cruising vessels and catamarans.
eCore can manage multiple energy sources, including shore power, diesel generation, solar and hydrogeneration, alongside electric propulsion and AC and DC onboard loads. ePropulsion says it is designed to centralise energy management and reduce the number of standalone components and internal wiring required in an installation.
The system comprises two main components: the eCore 96VDC energy management unit and the optional eCore AC module. The 96VDC unit manages power flow around the vessel, while the AC module provides management of both AC and DC power when used with the main unit. System information can be monitored through compatible displays and navigation equipment.
The architecture is scalable for different vessel configurations and energy requirements. Boatbuilders can use the DC system for essential requirements and add the eCore AC module where additional onboard power management is needed.
Danny Tao, CEO of ePropulsion, says: “The electrification of boating is about much more than replacing a combustion engine with an electric motor. As boats become increasingly sophisticated, we need to think about how energy is generated, stored, distributed and used across the entire vessel.
“eCore has been developed to make that process simpler. By bringing propulsion and onboard energy management together into one intelligent ecosystem, we can give boatbuilders a more integrated solution while making energy management far easier and more intuitive for the people using the boat.
“Cannes is the ideal place for us to introduce eCore. It represents an important next step in ePropulsion’s development, expanding our expertise in electric propulsion to provide a more complete approach to energy management onboard.”
eCore includes monitoring and load management functions, including power-saving and load-shedding capabilities. Consumption monitoring and historical data provide information on onboard energy use. The system also supports customised HMI designs for individual shipyards, remote monitoring for troubleshooting, and integration with third-party multifunction displays from Raymarine, Garmin and Simrad/B&G.
eCore is being shown at ePropulsion’s stand, Power 113, during the Cannes Yachting Festival.
