Ferretti Group to use Rolls-Royce mtu engines until 2027

Ferretti Group is to continue to use Rolls-Royce mtu engines and propulsion systems to power its yachts until at least 2027, after the firms renewed an ongoing supply agreement.

The Italian luxury yacht manufacturer says Rolls-Royce mtu engines offer “power delivery, reliability and fuel efficiency [that] have earned them a permanent place in the engine rooms of the group’s yachts.”

“I am extremely happy to announce the renewal of the agreement with Rolls-Royce for mtu products and solutions,” says Alberto Galassi, CEO of Ferretti Group. “The five-year term is crucial, because it offers the guarantee that supplies are always available and prices are sheltered from market swings. This agreement also further increases the efficiency of our supply chain, with clear benefits for us and our customers.”

“Ferretti’s renewal of this framework agreement is a tremendous vote of confidence in us and in our mtu products, in a challenging market and a challenging technological environment,” adds Andreas Schell, CEO of Rolls-Royce Power Systems.

Denise Kurtulus, vice president of global marine at Rolls-Royce’s Power Systems division, said that the companies are taking note of the climate and environmental challenges that lie ahead.

“For the foreseeable future, the internal combustion engine will be the power source of choice for applications – including yachts – which require maximum performance from a compact power pack, and will have an important part to play as we move into a world of sustainable shipping,” she says.

“In 2024, a Ferretti Group yacht is scheduled to be built with an mtu hybrid propulsion system,” Kurtulus continues. “Moreover, 2023 will see the mtu Series 2000 and 4000 yacht engines being approved to run on synthetic sustainable fuels complying with the EN15940 standard. These include fuels such as HVO (hydrotreated vegetable oil) and e-diesel.”

In future, Rolls-Royce will be supplying more than its mtu Series 2000 and 4000 to the Ferretti Group. From 2024, Ferretti will also be equipping smaller yachts with complete mtu NautiQ bridge systems developed together with bridge specialist Team Italia, with whom Rolls-Royce has agreed a close partnership.

Last month, Ferretti Group posted its H1 results, posting double-digit net revenue and EBITDA growth for the period with an order backlog at €1.2 billion.

Also last month, Rolls-Royce Holdings published its 2022 half-year results. Order intake of £2.1bn was 53 per cent higher than the prior period and included the highest quarter for order intake on record, with the strongest growth in demand in power generation, governmental and industrial end markets.
