Freedom Boat Club has opened a new location in Queenstown, marking its third base in New Zealand following earlier launches in Auckland and Christchurch.

The Queenstown operation provides access to boating on Lake Wakatipu and marks Freedom Boat Club’s second location in the country’s South Island, after Christchurch.

The launch forms part of the company’s ongoing expansion across New Zealand and the Asia-Pacific region. In January 2026, the firm announced plans to open its first Tasmanian location in 2026. The news followed another recent expansion into Australia, with the Freedom Boat Club Sydney South set to open in July 2026.

“Queenstown is a globally celebrated destination for outdoor adventure and natural beauty,” says David Kurczewski, general manager, Boating Services Asia-Pacific. “With the addition of a Queenstown location, we’re providing members across New Zealand and the wider Asia-Pacific region with a world-class boating lifestyle in a setting that truly embodies the spirit of exploration on the water.”

The club operates as part of Brunswick Corporation. Freedom Boat Club Queenstown offers members access to a fleet of boats operated under the club’s shared-ownership model. The club manages vessel maintenance, storage, insurance and cleaning. Members are also able to reserve boats using a mobile app.

Members receive training from licensed captains and have reciprocal access to more than 400 Freedom Boat Club locations worldwide.

“This is a significant milestone for Freedom Boat Club New Zealand,” says Scott Williamson, owner of Freedom Boat Club New Zealand. “Queenstown’s lakes and alpine waterways deserve a boating experience that is easy, accessible, and world-class, and that’s exactly what we’re delivering. We look forward to welcoming both seasoned boaters and newcomers to the water.”
