Graham Allen, former Henri-Lloyd CEO, dies age 59

Graham Allen, the former chief executive officer of British outdoor clothing brand Henri-Lloyd, passed away on 8 March 2025, following a battle with cancer.
A highly respected figure in the industry, he dedicated 34 years to the company, earning a reputation for his integrity, determination and deep passion for the brand.
Allen began his career at Henri-Lloyd in 1991 as marketing manager after responding to an advert in the Manchester Evening News. Recruited by founder Henri Strzelecki, he worked closely with the founder’s sons, Paul and Martin, quickly making an impression with his meticulous attention to detail. Despite having no prior boating experience (in fact, Paul recalls, if he could avoid going onto a boat, he would), his expertise in marketing and his ability to adapt made him an invaluable part of the team.
During his career, Allen took on several roles, including marketing director and commercial director. His contributions played a key part in Henri-Lloyd’s expansion into mainstream fashion and high-profile sponsorships, such as the brand’s involvement with Oracle BMW in the America’s Cup and its groundbreaking entry into Formula 1 with Brawn GP and Mercedes GP Petronas.
After a decade working at fabric manufacturer Sympatex in Germany and a marketing agency, Allen returned to Henri-Lloyd, overseeing retail operations and the development of its footwear range. His leadership was instrumental in navigating the company through changes, including its administration in 2018 and subsequent acquisition by Monte Rosa Sport. His commitment to Henri-Lloyd was recognised when he was appointed CEO, leading efforts to rebuild the company’s UK operations and re-establish its sales network.
“Graham was so excited about the new ownership and bringing Henri-Lloyd back to greatness,” says Knut Frostad, executive chairman at Henri-Lloyd. “He was a true gentleman and an encyclopaedia of the company. Even when Graham became more unwell, his enthusiasm never wavered. He will be sorely missed by everyone and represents all that Henri-Lloyd stands for.”
A lifelong Manchester City supporter, Allen was known for his sense of humour, strong work ethic and dedication to those around him. Many colleagues regarded him as a mentor. He took pride in guiding others and was generous with his time, particularly with those starting their careers.
Allen was intimately involved with all elements of the design, development and
manufacturing of the new Henri-Lloyd sailing range, which was launched to high acclaim in 2023.
Allen was also deeply committed to his family. When he was diagnosed with incurable cancer, he immediately stepped back from his role as CEO to focus on spending time with his wife, Donna, and their three sons, Ethan, Joe and Kyle.
Allen would have celebrated his 60th birthday in April. In a statement, Henri-Lloyd says: “His loss is deeply felt by his family, friends and colleagues, who remember him as a man of integrity, passion and unwavering dedication.
“On behalf of all at Henri-Lloyd, we send our love and support to his family at this difficult time.”
