Harken will supply deck hardware, winches, blocks, and hydraulic components for American Magic’s AC40 and AC75 racing boats. The equipment is designed and built in Harken factories in Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA, and Limido Comasco, Italy.
“The American Magic design, sailing, performance, and commercial teams demonstrate deep talent and are now quite experienced in the cup arena,” says Harken CEO Bill Goggins. “Terry Hutchinson’s track record on the water is undeniably impressive. However, his off-the-water leadership attributes arguably stand out as the most vital quality within a large team aspiring to attain the ultimate prize.”
Terry Hutchinson, American Magic president of sailing operations and skipper, adds: “In the America’s Cup, where time and resources are scarce, having reliable partners like Harken is crucial. We trust that Harken will deliver on our shared objectives promptly and effectively. Moreover, their longstanding leadership in sailing, dating back to Peter and Olaf’s work in the 12-metre era, is truly impressive. Aligning with such expertise elevates our team’s capabilities and aspirations.”
The 37th America’s Cup match will take place 12-27 October, 2024, in Barcelona, Spain in AC75 class yachts. To determine the match challenger, Louis Vuitton Cup round-robin races will precede the match also in Barcelona.
Youth and Women’s America’s Cup events will be contested in AC40 class yachts, adjacent to the Louis Vuitton Cup rounds in September and October.
