Heesen Yachts acquired by Dutch entrepreneur Laurens Last

Dutch shipyard Heesen Yachts has been acquired by Dutch entrepreneur and investor Laurens Last.
Founder Frans Heesen sold the yard to Russian billionaire Vagit Alekperov in 2008 for a reported $150m. The yard has been under the interim ownership of an independent Dutch foundation since 2022, when Alekperov was sanctioned by the EU.
The shipyard, which is known for the engineering and construction of steel and aluminium, custom and semi-custom motor yachts ranging from 50 to 80 metres, says the strategic acquisition secures Heesen’s future and commitment to Dutch craftsmanship.
The sale follows Heesen’s record-breaking financial performance in 2024, with revenue reaching €209 million and EBITDA of €17 million.
Heesen says the acquisition ‘reinforces its legacy of innovation, craftsmanship and commitment to delivering exceptional luxury yachts’.
Last is a passionate yachtsman and says: “This acquisition is more than investment – it’s a dream. Heesen represents the pinnacle of Dutch engineering and maritime craftsmanship. I am honoured to take the ownership and ensure the brand continues to flourish for generations to come”.
Heesen reported revenue reaching €209 million and EBITDA of €17 million in 2024. Under Last’s leadership, the shipyard will continue to focus on global sales expansion, technological innovation, and excellence in yacht design and construction.
Niels Vaessen, CEO of Heesen Yachts, comments: “We are thrilled to welcome Laurens Last to the Heesen family. His profile is a perfect fit: a successful Dutch entrepreneur with a genuine passion for yachting. His vision and commitment will enable us to preserve the legacy our clients value while propelling Heesen into an exciting future.”
Founded in 1978, Heesen remains the only fully integrated yacht builder in the Netherlands. With its state-of-the-art shipyard and in-house luxury interior division, the company controls every phase of the yacht-building process – from concept and engineering to final outfitting.
According to Heesen, the acquisition strengthens its mission to push the boundaries of yacht design, embrace advanced technologies and deliver bespoke yachts that set new standards in the industry. With its return to Dutch ownership, Heesen is set to build on its legacy, ready to embark on a path of stable growth, committed to delivering unique yachting experiences to its owners.
