JFA Yachts has launched its latest 50-metre explorer motor yacht. The French shipyard has announced that this fully custom-built yacht will now await sea trials and final delivery to the owner.
Designed by Humpreys Yacht Design, the yacht features a fast-displacement hull – the first of its size to be built with an aluminium hull, as well as a glass-epoxy composite structure. The construction method, already used by JFA Yachts on its Long Island catamaran range, is said to yield a lightweight vessel that improves energy efficiency and performance.
Frédéric Jaouen, president of JFA Yachts, comments on the yard’s new launch: “This ambitious and technically complex project embodies our expertise in aluminium construction combined with composite materials and state-of-the-art hybrid propulsion. We are proud to see her touch the water and to collaborate with Humphreys Yacht Design and our partners on such an exceptional vessel.”
Adding to the design’s efficiency priority is the yacht’s hybrid propulsion system that combines MTU diesel engines with electric motors. According to the yard, this allows for silent, low-emission operation at anchor or low speeds. Further environmentally-conscious features include a dynamic positioning system, solar panels and a high-capacity battery system.
Meanwhile, inside, the yacht has accommodation for 10 plus nine crew members. Interiors are courtesy of m2atelier, although no specific details have yet been uncovered.
To maintain comfort onboard, stabilising fins and a gyroscopic stabiliser have been incorporated. Making it suitable for extended worldwide exploration is the yacht’s ability to carry large tenders on the aft deck and its 5,000 nautical-mile range at 12 knots.
Following this launch, sea trials will begin from Concarneau, before final commissioning and delivery.
