Lusben completes refit of M/Y Kos
Lusben has completed a comprehensive refit of M/Y Kos, a 37-metre Benetti Classic 120 originally launched in 2009.
The refit was completed in six months with works spanning structural modifications, technical upgrades, systems overhauls, and interior and exterior refurbishments.
Work began in August 2025, shortly after the yacht was acquired by its new owner. Interior designer Laura Ross led the interior redesign. The refit aimed to to preserve the yacht’s original layout and character while enhancing functionality and the perception of space.
Lusben recently sat down with MIN to outline its strategic focus and scaling plans, amid a tightly defined target market.
“The Lusben site in Viareggio is a benchmark for complex refit projects on yachts and superyachts, thanks to the combination of technical expertise, production capabilities and extensive experience built over time,” says Paolo Simoncini, site director of Lusben Viareggio. “Kos is a tangible example of this approach: a project that required the coordination of structural works, technical upgrades and interior refit activities, all developed through an integrated process that enables us to support owners and industry professionals at every stage while ensuring quality, reliability and continuity throughout the project.”
On the main deck, Lusben coordinated significant structural modifications, including the installation of a new full-height window in the main saloon. The yard also undertook the technical assessments required to reconfigure the staircase area between the main and upper decks.
“As Lusben celebrates its 70th anniversary, projects such as Kos confirm how refit has evolved into a strategic process for enhancing and preserving a yacht’s value over time,” comments Ferdinando Pilli, general manager of Lusben. “Today, technical expertise, infrastructure and design vision must work together to meet the expectations of owners who are increasingly focused on quality, reliability and long-term value retention.”
The interior redesign centered on greater fluidity, brightness and visual continuity. The new transparent balustrade around the staircase allows natural light to flow between decks, while a backlit bar unit acts as an architectural focal point. In the corridors, selected opaque surfaces were replaced with satin-finished glass panels to increase perceived brightness, while new fabrics and materials were introduced throughout the guest accommodation. In the galley, the existing layout and finishes were updated to improve ergonomics and functionality while preserving the original character of the space.
Rossi adds: “Kos remains deeply a Benetti Classic, yet today she expresses a new vision of comfort and life on board. Perhaps that is the greatest luxury of all: feeling completely at ease in a space.”
In terms of technical and engineering upgrades, works involved the main engines, generators and key onboard systems, including HVAC, refrigeration, hydraulic circuits, water treatment systems and monitoring equipment. The entire lighting system was also upgraded to energy-efficient LED technology, while the bridge and onboard electronics were updated to improve usability, navigational safety and support for the crew.Among the most demanding aspects of the project was the complete repainting of the hull and superstructure.
