Maritime surveillance services

The “Patent Factory”, France Brevets’ business line aimed at start-ups and small companies, is proud to announce its partnership with UnseenLabs.

The partnership is for the filing and structuring of multiple patents designed to protect their intellectual property.

Maritime surveillance services
UnseenLabs, a French aerospace engineering firm, was in the spotlight at the recent 2017 Paris – Le Bourget Air Show with the signing of a first procurement contract for the delivery of a nanosatellite-observation based system for maritime surveillance services with GomSpace, a cube satellite specialist.

UnseenLabs, founded by Clément and Jonathan Galic in June 2015, has developed an electromagnetic intelligence payload unit which enables non-cooperating vessels to be located around the world. This payload will be deployed on cube satellite systems, of which UnseenLabs will be the only operator, with an expected operational launch date expected of summer 2018.

France Brevets has been working with the founders of UnseenLabs since April 2016 in order to protect its engineering projects. The filing of several patents has enabled UnseenLabs to come to an agreement for a signed contract with GomSpace with greater ease and without the risk of exposing its technology.

In a wider sense, the framework and intellectual property protection strategy designed by the Patent Factory teams, have given UnseenLabs the necessary credibility and proof of its capacity to protect its interests, investments and development efforts.

France Brevet’s Patent Factory activity aims to develop and co-construct strong sets of patents through partnerships covering a wide variety of inventions for optimal protection of technological innovations (patents, software etc.). This program helps to structure patent portfolios, which protect inventions made by start-ups, research laboratories, and French SMEs all over the world whilst enhancing their economic value for a number of key economic players.

Clément Galic, co-founder of UnseenLabs declared: “This launch into orbit will be a full-scale and real-life showcasing of our technology for new clients.

“It is also the realisation of an idea that has been developing for many months and is the final result of months of intensive research. The Patent Factory has given us the tools to grow and protect our innovations.”

Malcom T. Meeks, Director of the Patent Factory Program at France Brevets, concluded : “UnseenLabs is an innovative business which should be able to protect its technology so that it can continue to develop its activities.

“Our added value is to help small and medium sized businesses to obtain the investments necessary for the protection of their IP, especially at this critical stage of their development when they do not necessarily have the means to do this.”

Sends experts into both companies
As part of the Patent Factory Program, France Brevets sends its experts into both companies and research institutes, works its close contact with their teams, helps them to define which assets to patent according to what is most relevant for the implementation of their business model while assisting them for the written preparation and filing of patents in France and internationally in order to construct strong and well-dimensioned patent portfolios.

France Brevets puts both human and financial means to work so that the inventions of these companies and research organisms create real value. France Brevets also advises them for their medium – and long-term innovation strategy while providing guidance on the underlying economic and financial issues impacting the management of immaterial assets.

Within the Patent Factory Program, all intellectual property costs are taken on by France Brevets, which partners with inventors from the emergence of their project up to the written preparation of patents.

By bringing together all R&D projects within a pocket of quality patents of the right volume, the Patent Factory Program enables the originating entity of these projects to achieve their goals, including the raising of further funds, a better visibility within the scientific field, technology transfers to industrial players or the signing of partnership agreements.

The development of patent portfolios guarantees companies to ensure a better protection of intellectual property across the world.
