New North American partner joins ambitious 40OF foiling yacht project
As offshore sailing looks for the next leap in performance, the 40OF project is building an international network of partners to support its ambitions. The latest addition brings North American manufacturing and market expertise to a yacht designed to make offshore foiling more accessible.
The 40OF team is now in a strategic collaboration with Moore Brothers Company of Bristol, Rhode Island. The latter will represent the 40OF across the United States, Canada and the Caribbean while serving as the project’s North American build and development partner.
The partnership marks an important milestone as the project moves from development into market activation.
“The 40OF is about creating a new benchmark in offshore performance sailing,” says Nahuel Wilson of MW Naval Architecture. “By joining forces with Moore Brothers, we strengthen our ability to deliver the yacht to owners throughout North America while combining world-class design, engineering and craftsmanship.”
Designed to make offshore foiling more accessible
The 40OF (also known as the MW40OF) is a 40ft full-foiling offshore racing yacht designed by Wilson/Marquinez Naval Architecture in collaboration with Dutch partner Sailing Architect – headed by Willem Jan Landman. The yacht is designed to bring advanced foiling technology into offshore sailing through an accessible and manageable platform.
Building on the design DNA established through the 69F project, the 40OF represents the next step in high-performance offshore racing. At 40ft, the yacht combines performance, safety and accessibility in a way the company says has not previously been seen in offshore foiling monohulls.
The yacht offers four sailing modes: displacement, foil-assisted, stern-down foiling and full-flight foiling from approximately 12 knots of wind speed. These modes allow crews to explore the potential of offshore foiling while retaining the ability to dock, moor and operate independently in conventional harbours and marinas.
Moore Brothers backs next-generation sailing technology
Moore Brothers joins a growing international development team working to bring the 40OF to market. Other partners include Pindar, logistics partner for the 40OF development programme and future class activities; Evolution Marine, build and development partner for South Africa, South America and the Middle East; and Sailing Architect BV and Pablo Bottacchi, responsible for development, marketing and sales.
“With strong roots in the marine industry, Moore Brothers is happy to support the application of high-performance concepts to new and different arenas within the world of sailing, this year with the launch of the 40OF,” says Oliver Moore, director and vice president of Moore Brothers Company.
The yacht is engineered with retractable round foils and a canting keel. Unlike many extreme foiling boats, it features an offshore-style cabin and retractable foil system, allowing it to dock, moor and operate in conventional marinas.
With partners now spanning design, logistics, sales and regional build operations, the 40OF project is steadily moving beyond the concept phase. The next challenge will be translating its ambitious vision for offshore foiling into a viable class and commercial platform.
