Old sails, new purpose – Rooster grows its recycled bag range
Rooster is expanding its Sandy Point Collection for the 2025 festive – and gift giving – season, building on what the company positions primarily as a circular-materials initiative. The range is produced from retired sailcloth that would otherwise be difficult to recycle, and the company says each item carries a label identifying the original sail. The line was originally launched in 2023.
“These sails have already spent a lifetime doing what they were built for, so giving them a second purpose feels good,” says Rory Ellis, of Sandy Point. “Every bag still carries a bit of that history in the cloth, and that’s something I love about the process, nothing goes to waste, and the story doesn’t stop.”
Originally launched as a limited-edition collaboration for Christmas 2023, Sandy Point bags became a permanent part of Rooster’s line-up after proving popular with customers. The products are made in partnership with a small local business in Hayling Island which is located a few miles from Rooster’s headquarters in Fareham, aligning with the brand’s aim to work with nearby suppliers while re-using technical sail materials.
Rooster is adding four new styles:
- A5 sailcloth folder – a compact organiser for travel documents, small tech items and essentials.
- A4 sailcloth folder – sized for paperwork, tablets and notebooks.
- Sailcloth coin purse – a small, durable option for cards, cash and other daily items.
- Beach bag – a larger carry-all with rope handles, a water-resistant base and an internal zipped pocket.
The full collection is available online.
These join the existing products, now available in new colour variations. The expansion supports Rooster’s continued focus on responsible product choices, with an emphasis on demonstrating how used technical materials can be repurposed into functional consumer items suitable for repeated use.
