Oyster doubles-down on rumours about 885s

Oyster has issued a statement detailing the survey work being undertaken on Oyster Marine’s 885s. It will come as no surprise that Oyster wants to clear-up any confusion given its namesake’s past. It says surveys being undertaken are precautionary measures on the 885s that were built by the previous company, Oyster Marine.

The statement, designed to combat a story which has appeared to have spiralled after three 885s were spotted on a dock in Palma, says, ‘This [survey] is a precautionary measure. Thanks to the work we have been doing with Lloyds Register over the past three years we are surveying all the 885s built under the previous company (Oyster Marine Ltd), to assess their condition after extensive worldwide cruising.’

Many 885s have done tens of thousands of miles, circumnavigations and Atlantic crossings.

As previously reported in Marine Industry News, Becky Bridgen – chief financial officer and deputy CEO – says Oyster has invested in significant management of quality standards and getting the all-important Lloyds certification to provide reassurance.

Oyster‘s latest financial reports are a story in themselves. The company’s back into profit in the last quarter with an extremely positive forecast for sustained profits. The story of rebirth and success now sees Oyster recruiting 25 apprentices.
